Wear Your Thick Skin

As part of my 52/52 challenge for 2016, I wanted to enter a writing competition before the end of the year, and so I have been working on a story pretty vigorously. Also, since  I decided to try my hand at writing more seriously, some time ago, I joined an online author critique community.

I read through other’s works and add comments, and in exchange, I can post things I am working on. I got feedback on the second part today and I should have taken a little moment before I read over it. I need to remind myself to put on my thick skin, as some of this feedback can be a little tart.

So I looked away, took a deep breath, and then read the reviews again.

Are you part of a writing group? What has your experience been?

  1. I find it quite difficult to receive criticism too, sometimes it’s important to know which bits to take away from their comments even if it’s difficult to accept. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I have to just remind myself that they don’t know me personally and their feedback will make the story better. I’m glad I’m not the only one, though. Thanks for commenting!

Okay, your turn.
