This song deserves a place in my music memories perhaps only because it has stood the test of time for me.
By that, I don’t mean I love or hate it any more than I did in 1990. I didn’t really think much about this song when it came out, but my 8th grade best friend gave me the single cassette for my birthday. I thought she was cool and I was lucky to be her best friend, so I kept it and listened to it, hoping to winnow out some secret coolness.
It must have worked. (Ha. Just kidding.)
Now it’s sort of like that person you work with, maybe you’ve worked with them for years. You don’t really know them, don’t have an interest in knowing them, but you respect them for the good work you know they do.
I don’t hate the song like some songs I once loved because I overplayed them, and conversely, I never did come to love it. It has simply stood the test of time in my lukewarm feelings towards it, and I respect that.
What do you think of this song?
