This is in response to an old prompt about whether I prefer my voice on tape or face on vidoe, but it brought up good memories that I like to flip through. In college, my freshman year, I was best friends with two girls, Ann and Ali. Ali’s roommate moved out of her dorm room for some reason I don’t remember, and one night, inspired by Fiegling from a Romanian friend and cheap wine from a fake ID, she let us take magic marker to her walls to decorate.

The day before the big day
Todays Daily Prompt asked us what we do the day before a big day, and one of the suggested “big days” was our wedding day. Since a coworker of mine is getting married this weekend, I have recently been dreamily reliving the days of my own wedding, just, like 6 months ago… (I just realized, 6 months yesterday!) and I hope she has a good a time as I did.
The week before we went to Disney to get married was stressful, but not too much. The big decisions were already made and settled, we had a wedding planner handling things in Orlando. The actual day before, my husband and I bashed around Magic Kingdom with a couple of friends. These friends had never been to Disney World before, so it was awesome to show them things for the first time.
Stolen Muse
Sometimes I think pregnancy has stolen my muse. I am 11 weeks in and so very tired that there is little I want to do that requires more than on optic nerve. Watching Harry Potter or other things on Netflix, keeping up with the news here in #Ferguson. I have tried painting, tried drawing (get distracted), tried bicycling (bonk in 10 minutes), tried cooking (ugh – really? Eat that?) and, yes, tried writing (such a heavy pen).
“Do you know what your sin is, Mal?” “Aw hell, I’m a fan of all seven.”
To come up with a sin that Mal Reynolds would be proud to own, that is how I read today’s prompt.
Also, there is a stage at the Bristol Renaissance Fair that has the seven sins painted on the back of it, and this sin needs to be worthy of a painting with the others.
So, a trait or behavior that I find unacceptable. Gum popping? I hate that. Malapropisms? Those kind of drive me crazy, too, especially when I hear them a lot. Small talk? My INFJ personality hates that, though I know it serves a purpose.
I think the eigth sin I would declare is snorting. I don’t mean the I’m-sick-and-I’m-doing-my-best-to-keep-up-with-it-kind-of-snorting that we all have now and again, but the I’m-too-lazy-to-blow-my-nose-so-I’m-just-going-to-suck-it-into-the-deepest-recesses-of-my-brain snorting. <shudder>
I don’t want to see that painted in Bristol, and Mal probably wouldn’t like that one, Classy Captain Tightpants, but I think that would be it.
First Trimester Lessons
Two songs that have made my summer
You know how songs call back memories? I love that (I mean, usually. Sometimes the memories are bad and I don’t want to see them again.)
For this summer, I think I already have my song(s). The first is “Magic” by Coldplay. I don’t know how old it really is, but it was the background music in a video about the St. Louis Renaissance Fair this year. It’s dreamy, soft and other-worldly, just like my memories of the summer and the fair.
Or, the song would be “Moyturra” by Pictus, and Irish drum and bagpipe group, kind of local. My renaissance guild leader knew about them and recruited them to play during our Celtic weekend at the Faire. They used our camp as a home base, and even performed played one of their shows under one of our covered areas when the rain was too bad. Now, whenever I hear this song, I am standing by the tree behind the crowd next to my friend Jason, and we’re both standing in the drizzle, watching this band play their hearts out, watching our glen fill with people. It was gorgeous. Go to their website and check them out!
What would your song be?
Top Ten TV Shows or Movies
I’ve never done one of these, though one of the blogs I follow, The Bumbling Bookworm, puts these up faithfully. This week, she said, the top ten topic is on T.V. Shows or Movies! Huzzah! I feel like I can take part in this one!
And so I shall. T.V. shows are in green, and the one movie is in orange.
1. Doctor Who. Clever writing, fantastic storytelling…

Our Name is Creo – Create
And for the ultimate in Creation: I’m pregnant. I just found out on Monday, and I’m kind of freaking out. Not as much as I was, but still.
I haven’t blogged in awhile, and I know I’ve got some of parent/mother bloggers I’m pals with that I wanted to tell! Here’s a question for ya: I’m not drinking or smoking cigars right now, obvs, but I will want summat special to do when I’m with my friends or husband who is doing those things. What worked for you?
I’m thinking about making myself a Virgin Mary (a bloody Mary w/o the vodka) but what else did you have or do during pregnancy that was fun and special?
Art/Paint question
Hello friends
I have a paint question for you. There is a sign painted on plywood that my guild used during the Ren Fair that had our name and a cute picture on it. We’ve decided to paint over it, and I have volunteered to do that. My question is this:
What is a good paint to use on plywood that is outside?
Nothing that will run or wash away, and something that takes to wood. I will be posting pictures as I work on this project: Thank you for your help!
My favorite meal from youth? Ones that have emotional importance – it depends. Actually, no, it would probably have to be the one mom would make for us for St. Nicholas day. St. Nicholas Day, December 6th, was always the precursor, in my child mind, to Christmas. I put my shoes out by the fire place and got gold chocolate coins. But the day before, St. Nicholas Eve was also like a holiday in my house.
That was the day, when I was little, that mom and I decorated the house for Christmas. She would put up the big bulky tree and we would put candles and garland around the house, and ornaments up. It may also have been the day we started playing Christmas music, though that may have always been Thanksgiving.
But to decorate that day, she would always lay out a spread of our favorite kinds of foods: summer sausage and cheese and crackers, crackers, veggies, maybe some chocolates, and – this I remember distinctively – ham rolled up around cream cheese and pickle, cut up and pierced with a toothpick. That was the most distinctive and interesting flavor to me.
