The Art of Sleeping in Public

November 21, 2014November 27, 2014 ~ Sahara ~ 2 Comments

I know; I’m an adult. I’m not a kid anymore, and I’m actually carrying a kid right now.  All of these things means that I need to go to bed earlier and gets lots of sleep.

It usually doesn’t happen, even despite my best intentions, and I find myself making it through a workday by…. supplementing that sleep in other ways.

What Would You Say To Your 10-Years-Ago Self?

November 18, 2014November 18, 2014 ~ Sahara ~ 2 Comments

I believe my letter would go along these lines:

Well met, 10-years-ago-me!

How good it is to see you looking so well!  I know, you don’t feel like you’re well, but you’ll get on track.  It’ll be okay.  I just wanted to tell you of a few things that may help over the next decade.

Helpful Tips to Create More Space

November 16, 2014September 24, 2015 ~ Sahara ~ 2 Comments

Cohiba and I have spend the past several weeks looking for a place to move. While our current apartment is actually quite nice and I really like it, (though the drive sucks), we thought we had to move because the apartment is tiny for our needs.

Rather, our accumulated shit is too much for our home.

My Baby’s Head Can’t Get Cold

November 13, 2014April 28, 2017 ~ Sahara ~ Leave a comment

I found a blog (Ain’t No Ninny) that doing the artist’s answer to NaNoWriMo or NaBlaPoMo – they’re showcasing art they were doing every day in November.

Ever Make Up Your Own Words?

November 9, 2014November 15, 2014 ~ Sahara ~ 2 Comments

Language is an ever evolving tool of connection between humans, and making up new words is fun. I even see this happen among my homeless clients, work which normally has lot of frustrations, heartbreaks and disappointments. But the wordsmithing efforts offset the difficulties. Creation and Exploration Heal a Rough Day

November 8, 2014April 28, 2017 ~ Sahara ~ Leave a comment

After a difficult afternoon dealing with prospective landlords and realtors, as well as the fear that we may not find anything in time, I took to the soothing process of Art Journaling.  Just a bit, with simple materials of markers, pens, and pastels.

Four Reasons I Love Hindi Movies

November 5, 2014November 7, 2014 ~ Sahara ~ 6 Comments

Tonight, in preparation for writing this post, I asked my husband what he thought was weirdest about me.  Ever the tactful man, (because this can be a slippery slope) he brought up something innocuous: My enjoyment of Hindi movies.

I Have a 13 Year Old Boy Inside Me.

October 22, 2014October 24, 2014 ~ Sahara ~ Leave a comment

I may really just be a 13 year old boy inside, but when I see a name that begins with any random letter and ends with “_enis,” I giggle a little bit inside.

My Instincts Are Sometimes Mute

October 20, 2014December 10, 2016 ~ Sahara ~ Leave a comment

How well do you trust your instincts? People say we should, but do you?  It’s not something I’ve thought about very often, but knowing I’m going to raise a little girl has made me think about how I’m gonna teach her this stuff. I’m better in some areas than others.

The Daily Dose I Could Do Without

October 12, 2014August 29, 2017 ~ Sahara ~ 2 Comments

I got my daily dose of street harassment yesterday.

At 4.5 months pregnant, I’m still in the stomach phase of ‘I look like I ate too much.’ (Cohiba’s like: Yeah – if you ate a baby.) I was walking back to work from an afternoon coffee jaunt and these two young guys passed me. One of them yelled, “How far along are you?”
