Early Weekend Coffee Share #40

If we were having coffee, we would hug hello, glad that we could still meet, though is it a little early. Cohiba and I have plans for tomorrow, plans I’m sure I’ll tell you about, but I know they’ll occupy my mind.
Collections
Do you have any collections? I have been thinking I might need to take one or two up. But what should they be?
Advent Calendar and Belief Systems
I got an Advent Calendar for me and Wee One to use for the next month. It is the first time I have had one in years, and it is the first kind of Christmas tradition that I’m starting to do with WO. I hope it will create more than an echo of the warmth for WO that I had as a child. What traditions/rituals your family have?
I realize that talking about Advent and Christmas then only refers to the Christian tradition, and I do not want to exclude my non-Christian readers. Are there other winter/year end/solstice rituals you employ?
Christmas Movies That Are Not Christmas Movies
Living at Casa In-Laws means the TV is on a lot, which wouldn’t be my preference, but we go with it. They like to watch Hallmark seasonal movies and I can’t even be mad. They’re formulaic movies, but its a formula that works, and I don’t mind it playing in front if Wee One.
But they are obviously ‘Christmas Movies,’ and today I want to talk about Christmas movies that aren’t really Christmas movies. They are the ones I (and others) associate with Christmas.

Weekend Coffee Share #38

If we were having coffee, we would take our time, because it is nice to be out. It has been a long wee and I have missed you. I wish I could see you more.
Weekend Coffee Share #36

If we were having coffee, we would talk about the election, even though it isn’t polite to talk politics or religion. You and I talk it, because we feel pretty strongly about it. I was surprised by how bad I felt the morning after the election and scared.

Weekend Coffee Share #35

If we were having coffee, we would share a long hug, as it has been a long time. It’s a new shop we’re in, a new town. I have been to this shop before, outside of Columbus, and the chai is truly superb. I came here just recently, the first mom date I had with people since moving. This one went alright, but there will be more. It takes time to connect with people and find my group. I miss my friends in Seattle, and we toast to their health: Courtney, Lydia, Jenny, Midori, Beckie, Jessica, others and all the littles.
Handsy Shpitzing
Here in Columbus, Ohio, toddler story time is offered four times a week. (In Seattle, it was just once. This is nicer.) When we go, they sing different songs that have little motions to them, and one of them is called “Finger Poppin’,” set to the tune of a big band tune I can’t name. As you sing, you do a little things with your fingers, like you’re trying to flick water in someone’s face. (Is that just me?)
But I have a problem with that.
