Learn How To Juggle And Other Things

I mean, literally, juggle!

I have some scarves that I juggle that I got from one of those learn-to-juggle kit. (It was on clearance.) Wee One has seen me do it many times, and today, she picked up two of the scarves and threw them in the air and waved her arms around. Like she was juggling. She even made the little noises that I make when I’m doing it. #Killmenowsocute!

I know that toddlers are sponges and they do what they see. I am a little touched that she is imitating me and I’m thinking about other things I want her to do, to see me do.

It’s Nice To Be Nice To The Nice, But It’s Better To Be Kind To The Kind

I think of my mom saying, “It’s nice to be nice to the nice,” and telling me, when I was a child, to “Be nice.”  Be a nice girl. Do things that nice girls do, like brush their hair, keep their legs together, smile. (You guessed it: sometimes I don’t do these things.)

Ain’t Too Proud To Beg

Wee One layed down on the kitchen floor and then patted the floor next to her. ‘Lay down, mommy.’ The sweet gesture said.

I layed down next to her and she put her arm around me. We played peekaboo and I patted her head, then we shifted around so her head was on my arm. We were still. I had my eyes closed, and she had her paci. Sometimes she played with her hands or moved her feet on my legs.

She just wanted snuggles.

Now, we were on the kitchen floor, hard wood and cold. I thought about laying on the kitchen floor when I was growing up. Don’t laugh; I was usually engrossed in a book and wanted to keep reading. So I’d just lay where I was, and I remember being completely comfortable there back then. While lying there this morning, I thought about how life had brought this experience back around after 30+ years and how different they were.

But hell – I ain’t too proud to beg for snuggles! In fact, baby girl, mommy will always stop for those.

Hello! Opportunity Is Here Knocking!

The sure way to miss success is to miss the opportunity. Victor Chasles

Write about the best opportunity you’ve been given and how you made the most of that opportunity.

The best opportunity I have been given was services with Missouri Vocational Rehabilitation. Voc rehab is a program run through the state department of education, and it is one that is meant to help people with disabilities live and work independently.

In the early days after the car accident and coma, when I was in rehab for head injury, I was offered the chance to apply for assistance through that program. At the time, though, I was so scared of being “damaged,” that I didn’t even want to acknowledge what was going on with me. I was fine. It was fine. I could handle it. Just let me get back to school and it’ll be fine. That was my mindset.

Acceptance was hard to come by.

Too Much Is Not Enough

I bought a “Be Inspired” journal from one of the end cap displays at Barnes and Noble yesterday. It is so hard for me to NOT buy everything in a bookstore, but I normally find those kinds of journals trite. However, this one seemed different: a quote and short writing prompt that is actually interesting! and a quick flip through showed they were interesting prompts. For today:

Too much of a good thing is wonderful. Armistead Maupin

Write about a “good thing” of which you can never have too much.

Taking Turns… Showing Grace

A little girl pushed my kid today.

We were at the playground with other little kids, and this one girl wanted to play with a ball Wee One had. WO put it down and she picked it up. When WO went back for it, I intervened, and they sort of shared, then forgot the ball.

Later, right before the other girl was about to leave, she walked up to our stuff and said, “My ball.” I corrected her that it was ours. She pouted, went straight to where WO was standing on the sidewalk, and pushed her square in the chest.
