My Library Card

Cohiba and I moved to OH at the end of September, moved in with his folks. (I love my in-laws; I know I am lucky.) Never having purchased a house before, we thought we would find something by now, and alas, we have not. Which means all of our belongings are still packed in storage, beyond what we packed three months ago.

Since we have grandma here, we have more help for the Wee One and I have a little more time to focus on reading and writing. I finished the books I brought with me to read and have been LONGING to read something else! I finally went to the library without Wee One on Friday and got a library card and several books, including the newer “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”

Knock That Shit Off

I was reading an article about marital unhappiness from a behavioral economics perspective, that many people are unhappy in marriage because they are looking out. A “grass is greener” kind of thing. (Behavioral economics is about how people make choices, and is fascinating.)

A Bullshit Artist With An Attentive Eye

I’ve been thinking lately about if and when I want to go back to work, and what I would even want to do, and I’m struggling. I don’t know if I want to be in direct practice anymore, and I don’t think I have the patience to work with addicts or mentally ill people anymore.

Most of the time in my old role, I felt like an imposter.

A World-Pivoting Moment

Earlier this week, I wrote about when I was in undergrad, about guys asking if my name had an H or not and how it felt like a world pivoting moment.

I haven’t articulated this to anyone before (not really even admitted it to myself,) but  I’m going to be honest here: When I was that age, I would watch everything happening to me as I lived it. Like, I would visualize it all happening in a story as it was happening to me. So the man behind the counter, more beautiful and completely different from any other man I had ever known, was asking to know me better. Across the dark counter with the rain misting the windows, the street lights shining in the puddles. In the movie in my head, the world was pivoting around that moment.

Christmas Songs That Suck

If you are in the United States, you have been hearing Christmas music since probably the middle of October, except for those few stalwart stations that refused to play it until after Halloween, (which is still a month too damn long in my opinion). By the time the blessed day arrives, we’re sick of most of the music.

To be fair, there is a lot of crappy christmas covers to go around. Everybody and their brother wants to get in on the holiday cash cow share their personal favorites with fans. Justin Beaver, New Kids On The Block (and I came of age with NKOTB!), Christina Aguilera, Destiny’s Child, Aqua…

Its been a long time since we’ve had a Top Ten Tuesday around here and this it a perfect opportunity to vent about the songs that suck.
