C.S. Lewis is my all time favorite writer, and while there are so many gems of wisdom he wrote in his life, this one comes to mind quite often.
“To love is to be vulnerable.”
My heart was broken early and often, and I think a lot of my 20s were spent wrapping it “carefully with hobbies and little luxuries,” or at least, detaching from it enough to watch it from the outside.
I’m sure not many people do with vulnerability, but when I realized I really didn’t, I was suddenly free to do something about it. I could make a choice. I could move forward. If I wanted to love, for example, Cohiba, I had to be vulnerable. I had to have faith in my instincts that I was on the path God designed for me, and that the path was a good one. Have faith my God loved me so I could love others.
