TW: Racism against Native Americans
I Didn't Just Wake Up This Morning With A Craving
I Write To Stop Time
This year and this week, as Thanksgiving is featured so prominently in the minds of people in and from the United States, I am thinking more about the Native communities who are depicted in the original Thanksgiving myth and their descendants of today.
About a week ago, I was at the open gym at the local community center with Wee One, and I heard one mom refer to her cherubic daughter as “little woman.” As in. “Come on, little woman, we’re going home.” I think that sounds cute! We call boy children “little man,” and this is just another kind of endearment.
TW – Rape, Sexual assault
Over the past couple of days, apart from the bullshit coming from the office of our jittery imbecilic president, news stories have been coming out about 20 years of rape and sexual assault done to different women by big ole film dude Harvey Weinstein.

This Tehku Tea Shop, I was pleased to find, is owned and run by a woman and an immigrant. It is a small little shop only one block behind a Starbuck’s, and I was pleased to help keep it going.
I think of my mom saying, “It’s nice to be nice to the nice,” and telling me, when I was a child, to “Be nice.” Be a nice girl. Do things that nice girls do, like brush their hair, keep their legs together, smile. (You guessed it: sometimes I don’t do these things.)

If we were having coffee, we would be here for a long time since its been awhile since we met! We had birthday parties, both in Ohio and in St. Louis. (Oh yeah, Wee One is two. What did you do that she has to be two? 🙂
